This illustration was commissioned by the New York Times and Steven Heller. It was used as the lead-in in the print version of the Education Life special issue, as well as the digital version. 

The brief was to design an information graphic about some aspect of grad student life. I chose to tell a simple story—the tension between dedication to work and one's personal life.
